So many proposals and ideas of how to pop the question take place outdoors. If you are looking for proposal ideas that can occur indoors, you’ve come to the right place.
Candle-light dinner
This is probably one of the most romantic dates in my opinion. Making this plan can be fun and exciting, especially as you get creative with it. Are you good at cooking? Maybe cook the meal together or cook her a meal in advance. Have some nice music playing in the background.
You don’t have to have your candle-lit dinner at home either. Consider other beautiful venues near you that you can have a dinner set up for you both. This setting is so romantic and intimate, you will blow her away.
Repeat your first date
Something that girls love is when a guy remembers the sentimental. How sweet it is that her man remembers where they went on their first date! Take her there and tell her how much you have fallen in love with her ever since that day.
If you are unable to go to that same exact spot for some reason, you can also re-enact it. Say you went to a mexican restaurant on your first date, you can decorate your friend’s apartment with similar decor and music. The key is how you make her feel- LOVED!
At home or your childhood home
Home is such a special place for many people. This makes a very comfortable place to pop the question. Don’t forget to prepare and make it special, most girls don’t want you to ask while you are watching netflix (just a tip).
Is your girl a homebody? How close is she with her parents? Some people really want to share this moment with their family. If this is the case, a very sweet gesture would be to surprise her while she is home. This will also give you brownie points with the future in-laws!
Front porch swing
This is technically an outdoor/indoor space, but I wanted to include it. Porches are amazing, and provide a setting of calm and joy for many people. If you find yourselves often going out onto the porch to sit and swing and chat, this would probably be a total win for you.
A few tips to go with this, you will still want to get down on one knee. So, you will have to get off the swing.. I know, small details. It’ll be worth it! Don’t forget to say sweet things as you prepare to ask her!
Indoor garden
Botanical spaces are not only beautiful, but they also smell incredible. Smells are special because they bring on positive moods and help create and bring back memories. This would be a very romantic and unique place to propose!
Consider coordinating with the garden staff to set up a private area with pictures of you two, and maybe even have a song playing in the background. These small details will add an ambiance that will bring tears to her eyes.
Museum
This may or may not be your thing, but the arts are generally a good backdrop if you are trying to get romantic. Museums are a great place to be quietly romantic. You can likely work with the staff to set up a spot where you can propose.
Think about walking through the museum and telling a story as you see each exhibit. Maybe mention how each piece reminds you of something you love about her, or of a memory you have with her.
Indoor movie or slideshow
I’ve seen this done a couple of ways. The best way is consistent in using a projector or TV to display either a video you have created or a slideshow of your story together.
Take this to the next level by making an indoor/outdoor space in a backyard with blankets, pillows, lights, candles, food, and something to drink in celebration. If this isn’t possible, the same effect can be done in a large indoor room.
A pro tip is to use a very meaningful song in the background of either the video or slideshow. Music has a powerful effect on our emotions.
Live music and dancing
This is one of my personal favorites. You may not be a dancer, but you can just sway to the music. Live music can take this moment for you both to the next level. Be sure to tell her why you love her as you dance.
Another unique idea is to propose during a wedding, AFTER getting permission from the bride and groom of course! Weddings, especially if it is for someone you are both close to, can be a very special and romantic occasion. This would set a scene for a great proposal story.
Restaurant with a view
There is a restaurant in Moab that I saw once and told myself THAT was where I wanted to be proposed to. The view was incredible, from the top of a hill looking out at the red rocks. That didn’t end up happening, and I’m grateful for what my husband did end up planning for us, but this story is a perfect example of why an indoor restaurant with a view is such a great idea.
Not only are these restaurants usually more elegant and classy, she will just feel special that you made this reservation and thought so carefully about where you wanted to ask for her hand.
Surprise her at a ring shop
Joanna Gaines tells the story of how Chip surprised her by taking her a back way into a ring shop and when they turned on the lights, he was on one knee. She got to pick out her dream wedding ring. This is a unique and beautiful way to propose.
If your girl is the more picky type, she may want to select her own ring. In this case, taking her to the ring shop may give her the chance to customize and build the ring of her dreams.
Make it extra special by arranging with the jeweler beforehand, and maybe even having the place to yourself!
Your favorite spot – or just hers
What is that one place that brings her joy? Does she have a cafe she goes to when she needs to feel inspired? Is there a flower shop she stops in after work? Find out the place that she goes and make it even more special by proposing there.
A clever way to make this happen would be this: you ask her one day “casually and randomly” if she will show you around her favorite boutique. She is blown away that you want to see her special place. When you get there, after listening to her explain why she loves it so much, you start telling her why you love HER so much! And pull out the ring! Letting the staff there know ahead of time would be in your best interest.
